Public test guide

Concrete slump test

Checks the consistency and workability of fresh concrete before or during placement.

Plain-language explanation

What the test tells you.

The project specification controls the exact method and acceptance requirement.

01

What it is

Fresh concrete is placed and compacted in a standard cone. The cone is lifted and the vertical drop of the concrete is measured.

02

What is used

Fresh concrete sample, standard slump cone, base plate, tamping rod, scoop and ruler.

03

What it determines

Slump in millimetres and the observed shape of the concrete after the cone is removed.

04

Why it matters

Confirms whether fresh concrete has the specified consistency and helps identify unexpected changes between batches.

Typical test sequence

From sample
to result.

  1. 01

Dampen and secure the cone on the base

  2. 02

Fill and compact it in the specified layers

  3. 03

Lift vertically and measure the concrete’s slump
